I started this year with a goal to publish (almost) every week. My last post was on June 14. I’m not a math wizard but 40 days divided by seven…carry the one…isn’t on pace.
Since last July I’ve had a solid writing routine, but I got busy recently. I thought I’d be able to just get back on the writing horse, but it was surprisingly difficult. First, I couldn’t think of any topics to explore. Then, I didn’t want to set aside time to try writing. Then, even when I did manage to sit down, I’d abandon my ideas in draft hell thirty minutes later.
It’s hard to get back into routines: there’s a deep rooted inertia that’s hard to shake. Once you lose momentum it’s tough to get it back.
This is why habits die.
It feels more normal not doing anything than doing something.
With that in mind, here’s a small post to get back on the path.
Hopefully, you can get back on the horse in a steady way :)
I wrote about this issue this week too! And how I overcame it. My break in routine was due to a vacation. It’s difficult to break through the mind fog when a routine is broken. Takes 3 weeks to make a new habit. And 3 nanoseconds to break it 😂 But you made a great first step. 👏👏👏 (That’s me, in your corner cheering you on!)
