The whole cult thing is super interesting.

My partner and I are currently watching the doco series ‘wild wild country’ and it seems crazy to me how people join these things. But then again, I have also read and heard podcasts where people talk about how the capacity to do everything humans have done — murder, joining cults, and anything else — exists within all of us, and so maybe joining a cult is in my future after all haha.

Thanks :)

Exactly, I’ve listened to some podcasts with people who grew up in Scientology. Because they were raised in it they simply didn’t question the practices that they thought were strange. It was a well, “that person that everyone respects says these things so we ought to follow them.” It’s a sensible mentality if you think leaders know better but I don’t know how often that’s true.

Yeah, it is a sensible mentality, but what it makes me think is how much stuff are we, in our supposedly sane not-cult-like society just accepting because some leader says it.

When you really think about it, the whole thing could be a house of cards hahaha

Thanks :)

To convince someone that you are god’s disciple by picking the right music for Tik Toks sounds like an SNL skit.

Truly.

Any cult documentary (NXIVM!) is a guilty pleasure of mine. In general a good scam will do it for me (Theranos! Weirdly inspiring haha)
